SAFARI EQ8: Chimpanzee
Viewing on Ngamba Island (1 Day)
Ngamba island is a chimpanzee sanctuary on Lake Victoria
located 23km off shore from Entebbe mainland. Its a beautifully
forested tropical island of almost 100 acres in size and is
endowed with over 50 different types of vegetation on which
the chimps depend.
Chimps can be viewed from a raised wooden platform; or a walk
to the chimp forest for closer contact with these legendary
primates. Chimp walks in the forest however will require certain
medical conditions to be fulfilled including: Vaccination
against -Hepatitis A&B, Measles; Meningococcal meningitis
(menomune vaccine); Polio; Tetanus; Yellow fever and a negative
TB test prior to arrival. There are age specifications too:
minimum age for the walks is 18 and maximum is 65 years.
Day 1: Kampala - Kabale
- After an early breakfast, receive briefing for visiting
the island with JGI management at their offices in Entebbe.
Boat from Entebbe mainland to Ngamba Island.
- Take half day forest walk with the chimps - a special
day for you to get close to your relatives in the jungle.
You will have your lunch on the island.
- After lunch, you could go for chimps again or go bird
watching in the neighboring village. Early evening, relax
at the shores of Lake Victoria enjoying the natural gentle
breeze and be entertained by the aquatic beings singing.
Spend night at the island, or return to Entebbe mainland
for the overnight.
